Anna LukavskyAnna Marie Lukavsky, age 93, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home following a lengthy illness.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 am Saturday January 9, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Appel officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 � 8:00 Friday evening. Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held at 5:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Prayer services will be held at 5:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established to St. James Parish. Anna was born August 1, 1916 in West Branch, Iowa the daughter of William P. and Alice C. (Hughes) Harbit. She graduated from Springdale High School in Springdale, Iowa. Anna was united in marriage to Edwin Leo Lukavsky on April 7, 1937 in West Branch. She was a homemaker and also worked for Iowa City Domestic Services and the United Presbyterian Home.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. Anna was also a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a former member of the Y Women and the Walnut Women�s Club. She enjoyed playing Pinochle, sewing, crafts, making candles and ceramics. She enjoyed traveling and collecting cardinals, bells, and teddy bears.

Anna is survived by her eight children, including daughter, Helen Kurtz of Brighton, Iowa; daughter, Shirley McGraw of Bridgeton, Missouri; son, Kenneth Lukavsky of Holt, Michigan; son, Robert Lukavsky and wife Janet of Laverne, California; daughter, Marjorie Schrock and husband Devon of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Ruth Barnhart and Mario Salazar of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter Joyce Scranton and husband Paul of Ankeny, Iowa; son, Dennis Lukavsky and wife Diane of Waukee, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Barb Lukavsky of Washington, Iowa; 32 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Lukavsky, three grandsons; three brothers, Robert, Daniel, and John Harbit, and four sisters, Maude Waters, Alice Schneider, Gertrude Feldman, and Pearl Cole.
