Leona SwartzendruberLeona Swartzendruber, 89, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Leona will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Rev. Rob Leveridge will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Leona will be on Monday, December 7, from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. A memorial funds has been established at the funeral home in memory of Leona. Sympathy notes may be left for the Swartzendruber family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Leona Swartzendruber was born on November 22, 1920 in Kalona to Frank and Tillie (Brenneman) Miller. She married Loran on September 3, 1938. She was a Farmer’s wife, owner and operator of Leona’s Candles Plus for 25 years – Silk Wedding and Gift Shop. She belonged to the First Baptist Church in Iowa City, TTT Women’s Club, Fremont Homemakers and National Candle Guild.

Leona will be deeply missed by her two sons and their wives, Don and Connie Swartzendruber of Iowa City and Gary and Virginia Swartzendruber of Lone Tree; one sister, Grace Brenneman of Barefoot Bay, Florida; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
