A former quarterback that played in Washington’s district will make his first start as a collegiate athlete. James Vandenberg played for the Keokuk Chiefs and now will step in as the Hawkeyes quarterback tomorrow in place of injured Rick Stanzi as they face Ohio State. The Demons beat Keokuk in 05, but Vandenberg’s junior year he and Demon senior Zach Davis had a shootout in Keokuk in 06 in which the Chiefs won a nail biter. In 07, Keokuk spoiled the Demons homecoming with a big performance from Vandenberg on their way to a 3A state championship easily beating Sioux City Bishop Heelan in the final. Hawkeye defensive back standout Tyler Sash from Oskaloosa also played in the district.
