The state high school volleyball tournament kicked off yesterday and the team that came out of Washington’s regional provided an upset. The Williamsburg Raiders beat Fairfield in the regional final to get to the state tournament and drew number two ranked Algona. The Raiders handed Algona only their second loss of the season and did it in three games. Williamsburg won 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. So the Raiders improve to 27-11 and advance to the semifinal round where they will face 45-5 and third ranked Waverly-Shellrock. Waverly-Shellrock was a winner over Dubuque Wahlert in four. The semifinal match will be played tomorrow with the championship on Saturday.

Class 1A and 2A schools will begin state tournament play today, in 1A, Super Conference school New London will play Schaller-Crestland.
