Kalona city officials are putting a new spin on roadwork. City administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the city wants to install “quilt blocks” on many city streets which would inlay six by six keystone quilt designs directly onto the concrete. Schlabaugh says the quilt blocks would guide visitors on a walking tour of the city. He says the idea was to create something that would fit well with the county’s barn quilt tour.
