It’s the quarterfinals for the high school football playoffs, and the WACO Warriors will take the field against the North Tama Redhawks. The top ranked North Tama Redhawks were the state runner up last year as they lost to Southern Cal, Lake City 22-21 in overtime. For the WACO Warriors it’s their first quarterfinal appearance since 2007 when they played Madrid in New Sharon. It was a cold night as Madrid won 34-6. Coming into tonight’s game North Tama is 11-0 while the Warriors are 8-3. The three losses were all non-district and came to 2A Mediapolis 28-6, 1A Pekin 27-26, and North Mahaska 13-7. North Mahaska lost to North Tama in the opening round of the playoffs 45-0, but in the last week of the regular season in rainy conditions played North Tama to a 7-0 game. The Warriors and the Redhawks meet in the UNI-Dome tonight and you’ll be able to hear the game right here on the one to count on KCII, Dewain Alvine will join me and we’ll start at 6-pm and take you up to the 6:15 kick off.

The winner of the WACO-North Tama game will play the winner NU High out of Cedar Falls and Newman Catholic, Mason City. The semifinal game would be played next Friday either 10:30am or 1:30 pm.
