A local plant breeder says the impact that the late Norman Borlaug had in his field is probably yet to be realized. John Thorne works with Syngenta in Washington. He says besides starting the “green revolution,” Borlaug also set work ethic standards. Thorne was in college when Borlaug won the Nobel Prize. He says this had a profound impact on his career. Borlaug is credited with saving billions of people by creating high yielding strains of wheat.
