A Busy Night Ahead for Area Teams

Posted: Monday, April 16th, 2012 at 7:51 am

Boys’ and girls’ track teams head to the Keota Relays today to kick off what is a busy week on the tracks around the area with about two weeks left until conference meets.

Among the schools make the trip to Keota’s only home meet is English Valleys, Sigourney and one of the top area teams in Lone Tree.

Keota girls’ track coach Dan Stout joined the coaches corner Saturday morning and talked about the unique open events at their meet.

“That’s one of the things we’ve done in the past to keep people coming to our relays.  We might have seven or eight heats of the 100 meter dash or the 200, some of those things.  I think that’s kind of neat because the kids get a chance to try other things.  We’re looking forward to that and it’s the only meet we get to run at home so hopefully the weather cooperates with us.”

As far as the weather in concerned today, the rain should stay away and we’re looking at temperatures in the upper 50’s right around start time with some stiff winds.

No rain is good news as well for several other events underway this evening.  Most of the golf teams are out on the links today and the stiff winds should add to the difficulty.  Lone Tree hosts IMS; Columbus is on their home course agaist L&M; Sigourney travels to Lynnville-Sully; WMU and Wapello square off and the Demon girls take on Mt. Pleasant.  Two area soccer teams are on the pitch as well.  The Columbus girls head to West Liberty and the Mid-Prairie ladies look to improve to 4-0 as they head to Monticello after outscoring their first three opponents by a total of 27-0.
