Inmates in Iowa’s prisons, including those at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility, will soon have access to Mp3 players. Sheryl Dahm, a spokeswoman for the Iowa Prisons System, says inmates have access to cassettes and tape players now, but the prisons are trying to keep up with technology.

The Senate passed a bill that would give Iowa prisons $8.5 million dollars in funding to maintain their current staffing levels. Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility Superintendent Ron Mullen says they have had to cut staff in the past, and if they don’t receive an increase in funding, they will likely have to cut more.

Anthony Michael Koelhoeffer, the 21 year old Fairfield resident, who escaped police custody from the University Of Iowa Hospital last December, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
