Mid-Prairie got the best of Washington last night on the soccer pitch, getting the win 4-2 in a tough fought match.

The game started with both team kicking the ball long and struggling with possession, until Washington had the first chance that went off a defender and between the legs of Bailie Harris for an own goal.

Mid-Prairie then broke through the defense to try and even up the score, and it was Ashley Miller who had the hot foot, scoring in the 19th minute and the 39th minute to make the score 2-1 at half.

Out of the break Mid-Prairie would control the ball most of the half and put two more on the board, when Allison Riggan had an easy breakaway and went to the opposite side of the net for 3-1.

Ashley Miller completed the hat trick when she hit another mid-way through the second half to finish out the Mid-Prairie scoring.

Miller talked after the game about her hat trick.

“It’s awesome, I didn’t think I would [get a hat trick], I thought it was going to be a bad night, but I guess not,” Miller said.

Washington got another on the board late in the second half when Chase Jaspering went top right corner and drained it to the back of the net to make the score 4-2.

Jaspering wasn’t done, as she almost got a goal away from Harris, but was denied, and then was awarded a penalty kick in the closing minutes, but shot it just over the cross bar.

Jaspering talked after the game about what she thought about during the penalty kick.

“Our goalie says to shoot it anywhere but the goalie, so we think anywhere but the goalie,” Jaspering said. “It’s a lot of mental.”

Washington falls to 1-6 while Mid-Prairie is now 5-2.
