Washington County Extension Provides Pruning Advice
Posted: February 25, 2013 @ 6:22 am In Today's Local News
Winter weather may have stolen the headlines last week but spring will be flowering before we know it. The Washington County Extension Office advises to trim spring flowering shrubs in late winter and early spring to rejuvenate the plant to allow for a better bloom. Summer flowering shrubs can also be pruned in late winter and early spring months. Several options for pruning include trimming back over a three year period by removing the largest and oldest stems while thinning out some of the new growth. Gardeners can also trim shrubs back to within four to six inches of the ground which will result in many new shoots. For more information contact the Washington County Extension Office.
