Washington City Council Looking at Purchasing House
Posted: February 6, 2013 @ 6:25 am In Today's Local News
The City of Washington is preparing to purchase a house that is in disrepair. The house is on North Second Avenue. It’s described by city officials as being in very bad condition. In memos to the Washington City Council, City Administrator Brent Hinson outlines the sale as a purchase for four thousand dollars, which includes a variety of fees and and taxes.
Hinson also says that the city is not interested in using condemnation, as that process might cost more than what they expect to pay for the purchase. Previously, Hinson has said that when a city acquires property in this way, it’s sometimes burned and used for Fire Department and law enforcement training. Otherwise, it would be demolished. The cleared lot then would be sold back to a private owner.
The council considers the purchase at their meeting tonight at 6 at the old library building.
