The initiatives in Washington County focused on improving the health of the community and the people within were showcased last night. The Healthy Community Coalition Showcase held at JP’s 207 in Washington provided people who have spearheaded programs for either the Washington County Obesity Prevention Task Force or SAFE Coalition a chance to share the progress that’s been made in the last year.

Updates were given on programs in Washington and Kalona focused on making sure there are safe walking routes to schools. Principals at Ainsworth and Lincoln Elementary schools talked about student-led gardens. And attendees were briefed on the county’s success so far in the Live Healthy Iowa 10 Week Wellness Challenge.
