New State Senator Highlights Driving
Posted: February 1, 2013 @ 6:22 am In Today's Local News
The State Senator whose district covers the southern part of Washington County wants to draw attention to young drivers in a new bill introduced to the state legislature. Senator Rich Taylor is a Democrat who serves on the Senate Transportation Committee. That committee put together a bill that extends the permit phase of drivers ed to 12 months. That way, Taylor says the supervised practice time will better prepare teenagers for real world driving in a variety of seasons and weather conditions.
The bill would also limit the number of non-family teen passengers in the vehicle during the first six months of the intermediate license phase. Taylor says this new rule would prevent crashes and save lives. The bill will move next to be considered by the full Senate.
