Mid-Prairie Committee to Update Long Range Facility Plan, Consider Bond Issue
Posted: February 18, 2013 @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News
Mid-Prairie’s citizen committee will meet later this month to re prioritize the long range facility plan. Originally formed four years ago to produce the plan, the committee met for about a year and put together a 10 year plan for the district. The purpose of the meeting set for February 27th is to update the plan.
Superintendent Mark Schneider says there’s potential for a bond issue a year from now that would include improvements to all of the districts facilities and a possible joint venture with the City of Kalona.
The shared building that’s been proposed could meet a few of the districts needs, including another practice gym for the middle school and offices for central administration.
The bond issue that would be put in front of residents in 2014 wouldn’t be the only source of funds for the endeavor. Schneider says they would look to use sales tax funds and private donations. But before the bond issue comes up, they need to know if there’s interest in the community for a shared project. He adds a subcommittee will most likely be created to explore options and work with the committee Kalona has formed to look at the proposal.
