Demon Boys Finish Season with Loss to Solon

The Washington Demon boy’s basketball team ended their season last night after losing to Solon 58-40.
Washington came out in the first quarter, and it looked like a new team. Washington was out hustling, working and staying shot for shot with a large Solon team and was tied at 18 after one with the help of four three pointers made during that time.
In the second quarter, there was less scoring by both teams, but the Demon continued to push as after the first half Washington came away with a lead 29-28.
Unfortunately Washington has been plagued with that one quarter all year long, and against Solon it was no different, as out of the break Solon turned up the intensity, and Washington did not shoot the ball. The Spartans went on a 19-2 run that lasted the entire quarter, with the Demons scoring their only two points in the third with a minute left.
In the fourth quarter, the deficit was too much to overcome as the Spartans went to the bonus and continued to score while passing and avoiding the Demons and wasting 1:30 off the clock.
Washington put up some points to get behind 17, but that was the closest they got.
Roder was the leading scorer for the Demons with 11, all in the first half.
Demon head coach Bryce Smeins talked after the game about the first half and the difference in the third quarter.
“I thought we played probably our best half of the year in the first half, our plan was to come in and take care of the ball and play patient basketball and play with the ball in our hands and not play defense all night, and I thought we did a great job of that in the first half, we shot it pretty well,” Smeins said. “Third quarter Solon came out with a little more pressure, it got a little more physical in the third quarter, close to losing control maybe for a little bit there, but they got some buckets out of that and we got down by 10 or 14 and they are a hard team to come back against.”
Washington ends their season at 5-17 overall.
