Work Session Begins Discussion on Lagoon System Alternatives

A public meeting was held in Richmond last night in an attempt to create of constructive discussion on their situation. Around 60 people met at Holy Trinity Parish Life Center to voice their opinion on the lagoon sewer system and to offer alternatives. Individual, central collection and cluster were among the systems suggested by residents directly affected by the current proposal. Despite it being open for those on both sides of the argument, very few people showed up in favor of the lagoon system.
Some of the residents felt they should see how many people in the city have a failing septic system contributing to the problem, to get an idea of how widespread the issue is. This might involve the county sanitarian or the DNR testing individual systems in the town.
Supervisor Jack Seward Jr will present a summery of the work session at an upcoming board of supervisors meeting. He’ll also talk with the sanitarian to see if the options presented will address the current problems. Anyone with a failing septic system in Richmond should contact the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
