Sheriff Dunbar Settling Into Role as Sheriff’s Association President

The Washington County Sheriff says he is enjoying his new role as the president of the Iowa State Sheriffs’ and Deputies’ Association. Jerry Dunbar has been involved with the group for a few years, and he began his term as president in December. This year, Dunbar says a big issue for the association is the state legislature’s funding for 9-1-1 service.
Another issue that might get attention is whether to change the law regarding texting while driving, or using other mobile electronic devices while driving. Dunbar says as the law stands now, a citation can be issued for texting and driving, but only if the driver is pulled over for another violation first.
