Drought Persists Through Winter
Posted By News On @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled
The National Weather Service says drought conditions have changed very little over the last month. Washington County has fared much better than other parts of the Midwest, especially compared with northwestern Iowa and into Nebraska.
The Quad Cities National Weather Service Office indicated over the weekend that soils had not frozen yet, which meant the possibility of improved soil moisture with rainfall or snow-melt. However, the cold and dry conditions predicted for this week do not show much immediate potential for doing so.
Other winter-time drought considerations are the low rivers and streams with reduced fish habitat, which are more likely to lead to cold-weather fish-kills.
