Demons Fall to Muscatine
Posted: January 16, 2013 @ 8:30 am In Today's Local Sports
The Washington Demon girls fell to Muscatine last night 60-41.
The size of the Muskies was too much for the Demons as Muscatine had the lead for the whole game, leading after one, 10-6.
The Demons held the game within reaching distance after the first half, trailing only 28-23. But the game started to get physical, and the height difference became an issue.
The Muskies pulled ahead leading by 10, 41-31 after three, and the Demons could get no closer, as Muscatine pulled away and got the win 60-41.
Washington went 8-18 from the free throw line, while the team was led by Beth Dillon with a 16 point night.
Demon head coach Phil Long talked about how Dillon’s play is a good sign for the team especially with Johannah Vittetoe still out of the game.
“We’re always going to be outsized, all season long we have been, and hopefully we’re learning to play at that level of our opponents that they are not going to physically weight wise shove us around, but athletically they could, and I thought Dillon made some great post moves down there and knew when to attack when to pull it back, fan it, how to get somebody up and under and finish, and she is really coming along well, we’re going to have to have her come along well and have Shive and Hartzler give us good quality minutes off the bench until we get Johannah back,” Long said.
Washington plays again at home on Friday against Fairfield.
