The Washington Demons girl’s basketball team got the win last night over Tipton 46-36.
Coming off an overtime win over conference and school rival Mt. Pleasant, Washington trailed the Panthers after one 8-7.
That lead didn’t last long though, as the Demons opened up the offense in the second quarter with 16 points and shut down the Tipton offense only allowing them three points.
Washington held the Panthers to single digits points in the first with eight, in the second with three and in the third with four points in the quarters.
The fourth quarter provided for some late game drama, as the obvious fatigue found it’s way into the Demons and fouls became an issue, as the Demons had 16 fouls in the second half.
Washington held on for the 10 point victory though.
Washington was led by Grace Redlinger with 10 points on the night, followed by a nine point game for Beth Dillon.
Demon head coach Phil Long said it was tough game, and with his team slightly banged up they will take this longer break.
“So maybe the calendar is right for us to have this extra [break] I don’t particularly like it, but that’s the cards we were dealt so we’ll play the hand out, and I’m already giving them Friday off of next week, so we’ll have four good quality hour and a half practices and work on a few details and then come out ready to play,” Long said.
Washington will play again on Saturday.
