December Snowfall Hurting Pheasant Season
Posted: January 9, 2013 @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News
As we near the end of the season, hunters might be having a hard time tracking down pheasants. Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Wesley Gould says that may be due to the blizzard in December. He shares the pheasant population trends over the past few years coincide with snowfall. Gould explains when there’s deep snow, and especially if there’s ice, it makes it hard for the birds to dig for food. He adds when wind enters into the mix, snow drifts over ditches, which is critical habitat for pheasants.
