The United States Congressman whose district covers Washington County says economic issues and sustainability should be the priorities in President Barack Obama’s second term. Democrat Dave Loebsack issued a statement after the second inauguration of Barack Obama Monday, and he says he see the possibility of bipartisan cooperation.
The two U.S. Senators from Iowa also made statements Monday. Democrat Tom Harkin says that Obama’s inaugural address had a message of the importance of unity across generations using principals like freedom, security and prosperity.
Republican Senator Chuck Grassley says that financial issues need to take a priority. He says that he hopes the president will work with Congress. And he says that he hopes the Democratic-led Senate will propose a budget. That’s something that was not done for most of Obama’s first term.
Both Loebsack and Grassley point out the importance of the United States tradition of peaceful transfer of power through democracy.
