‘Alive After Fives’ Include Service Group and Service Day

Among the upcoming Washington Chamber of Commerce ‘Alive After Five’ events are a service club this week and a highlight of a day of service next week. The events are held occasionally in the early evenings as a way to highlight local businesses and to network. Tomorrow night, the chamber holds an Alive After Five event for the Rotary Club of Washington. It will be at Cafe Dodici on the Washington square. Rotarians are involved in a variety of national and local community service projects. They have done tree plantings with the Washington Tree Committee, fundraising for park benches and the band-shell sound system, and helped with Washington County Fair.
In another event, one week from today is Martin Luther King Junior Day, which has become a national holiday meant to answer a question that King described as persistent and urgent: “what are you doing for others?” An Alive After Five will be on that day at Hamakua Place in Washington. They will having people writing messages of thanks to emergency responders like police, firemen, and E-M-T personnel.
