Washington Boys Hold On For Win Against Durant
Posted: December 1, 2012 @ 8:30 am In Today's Local Sports
The Washington boy’s grabbed the win last night over Durant 57-53.
Washington had the lead at the beginning of the game, but lost it about half way through when Durant’s Von Glasser heated up from the three point range, scoring 17 points in the first half.
The Demons played a 2-3 zone during the first half, and needed to make a change at the half as they were down 28-25.
Washington came back out in a man-to-man defense with Kyle Roder and Gage Redlinger playing on Glasser.
Roder then got hot as well added five points to his eight point night in the third quarter to help the Demons take the lead in the third 38-35.
In the fourth quarter, Glasser started to find the bucket again, nailing two threes on his way to a 32 points night. Washington started to make the game interesting though, as Durant fouled Kyle Roder who went 8-8 from the free throw line, but then they fouled Alex Coker and Daryn Sebelius who shot a combined 2-9. But it didn’t matter, as the Washington defense continued to force turnovers and bad passes to break up the Wildcat offense, and they got the win.
Demon head coach Bryce Smeins talked after the game about the defensive switch to go against Glasser.
“Second half we played a little bit more jump defense on Glasser, chased him around the gym, and did a little better job on him, but he’s such a good player and Gage Redlinger had him for quite a while and Kyle Roder had him for quite a while, and I thought those two guys did a great job on him,” Smeins said.
Roder was the leading scoring with 26 while Justin Hoffman had 11.
Washington plays again tonight against Pella Christian.
