Poaching Prevalent in Southeast Iowa

Posted: December 18, 2012 @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News

Reports of headless deer in southeast Iowa are on the increase this year. According to DNR Conservation Officer, Wesley Gould, that’s common practice for poachers. He says such a crime carries a hefty punishment. Any antlered deer can get you a $5,000 civil penalty, while the fine for deer over 150 inches can run anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000. He says on top of that you’ll lose the equipment you used, hunting privileges and will also face criminal charges.
