The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team suffered their first loss on Friday in Iowa City but rebounded with a 63-49 win over Tipton in Cedar Valley Conference play Tuesday night at home. In a game heard on KCII, Mid-Prairie fell behind 6-3 early before putting together a 12-2 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. Tipton would use the second quarter to get back in the game trailing just 28-23 at the break but Mid-Prairie had another flurry to start the second half to put the game out of reach, leading by as many as 19 in the second half. After the game Head Coach Chris Kern talked about his team’s defensive effort, and their effort on the glass.
“I think against it was our pressure defence and we’re trying to get it ingrained in this guys that we attack the basket, and we want to wear a team out both ends of the floor,” Kern said. “We work so hard everyday at boxing out, and sometimes we slip up, but we’re getting better at it.”
Mid-Prairie was paced by Reid Miller with his game high 19. With the win Mid-Prairie improves to 4-1 on the year and 3-1 in the Cedar Valley Conference with a game against Durant in Wellman Friday.
