Despite some weather related schedule changes for others, the local group helping to put together a blood drive today in Washington is still expecting that event to happen. Jeff Vetter from the Washington Noon Kiwanis group says that the blood drive at the Washington United Presbyterian Church was scheduled for today, but has been cancelled. About 70 appointments had already been made as of yesterday afternoon, but Vetter says that most people drop in at whatever time is convenient for them.

Noon Kiwanis is also planning to have their second annual chili supper next week, which is also at the U.P. Church.

Last year, that event replaced a previous breakfast fundraiser that Vetter says had diminishing attendance over years.  This new fundraiser is one of many to help support the group’s effort to support local causes including Relay for Life, high school causes, and other one-time needs like being one of many contributors to the recent Washington YMCA pool repair work.

Vetter says that the group’s largest fundraiser is a food stand at the Washington County Fair, when the money they make goes to support college scholarships for two high school seniors.
