Demons Clutch Not Enough

The Washington Demon boys fell to Keokuk last night after a rough first half 44-41.

The Demons made six points in the opening four minutes of play, and then did not score until 3:30 left in the second quarter, when Kyle Roder drained a three pointer.

Roder had 10 points in the first half, eight with three minutes left in the second quarter.

What seemed like an impossible 27-14 defecit at halftime, the Demons chipped away at it in the second half, making it 35-24 after three and got within striking distance in the fourth quarter with the offense working, but down six Roder landed a three point shot with just .3 seconds left to go on the clock, and yet again the Demons saw their late game heroics go for not.

Washington was led by Roder with 16, and Justin Hoffman with 13.

Demon head coach Bryce Smeins says his team just has to find a way to play a whole game.

“To our kids credit again, it’s the same story, I think we came out and played better than Keokuk in the second half, but we have to play 32 minutes instead of 16,” Smeins said.

The Demons won’t get a rest, playing 5-2 West Branch tonight, as they are shooting almost 50 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from the free throw line,

This game will be played at Washington tonight. You can hear all of the action on AM and FM KCII and KCIIradio.com with pregame following the girls game, and tip-off to follow. The on to count on for today’s local sports coverage is AM and FM KCII and KCIIraido.com.
