City has Aging Water Infrastructure

The Washington Water Plant Superintendent Chad McCleary says that the city’s equipment that pulls water out of the ground to be purified and distributed is getting less efficient. McCleary says some of the 19-year-old infrastructure has been used longer than expected. He says that’s meant the city has needed more electricity and chemicals to treat the water, and overall it’s led to a lower quality end-product. Among other needs are addressing larger infrastructure like a deteriorating ground water-storage tank, which the Iowa D-N-R has said needs to be addressed soon. McCleary gave a report to the Washington City Council last week.
