Washington County Emergency Siren Changes Left Up to Cities

The Washington County E-9-1-1 board will not be covering the costs associated with making changes to radio transmitters and the emergency sirens found in cities. The Federal Communications Commission has set January 1 as the date when new rules are in place about what radio frequencies can be used. It’s called narrow-banding, and the total cost of changing the sirens over county-wide is about 10-thousand dollars. The board decided that those cities themselves will have to cover the cost.
