Annual Holiday Events Include a Parade Today in Washington
Posted: November 23, 2012 @ 6:26 am In Today's Local News
Washington’s annual post-Thanksgiving traditions are lined up for today. Washington Main Street arranges a series of events downtown.
The evening begins at 4 p.m. with free food provided by Kiwanis and the Lion’s Club. The Stewart Boosters will have hot cocoa. Four o’clock is also when live music begins including the Tubador and the Washington Choral Society. The free hayrack rides begin at 5. Then, the lighting ceremony is at 5:30. A crew has been going around the downtown square replacing light bulbs for the wintertime outline of the buildings. Those lights get turned on this evening.
Main Street Washington starts the Holiday Lighted Parade at 6, where brightly-lit floats will circle the square, and it includes KCII’s Big Red Radio. The parade is also when Santa Claus first arrives in Washington. He then will hear kid’s wish lists at Santa’s house starting at 7. This year, Santa will be at the former library building at 120 East Main Street, which is across the street from the YMCA.
