Scouting for Food on Saturday
Posted: October 10, 2012 @ 6:26 am In Today's Local News
Southeast Iowa Boy Scouts will be scouting for food on Saturday thanks to donations from area residents. Scoutmaster Neil Mills from Washington Scout Troop 242 says scouts delivered donation bags to residents in the area last Saturday and will return this coming Saturday to collect donations.
Mills says the food that is received will be given to the eight churches taking part in the Saturday Kitchen program as well as two area food pantries. He notes as many as 5,000 to 7,000 items have been collected during this drive.
Mills says the pantries that receive the food each year look forward to the donations because it helps them prepare for the upcoming holiday season. He adds the bags with food need to be left out by 8:00 Saturday morning for pick up by local scouts.
