Posted: October 30, 2012 @ 8:29 am In Today's Local Sports
Mid-Prairie had their football season come to an end Monday night in Bondurant as the Golden Hawks fell to the #10 ranked Blue Jays by a 33-0 score. In a game heard on KCII, Mid-Prairie struggled on both sides of the football due to the size of Bondurant-Farrar, especially on the offensive and defensive lines. The Blue jays scored on their first three possessions, the first a 31 yard field goal from Dillon Stafford and a pair of first half touchdown runs from Colton Halder who made things miserable on the Golden Hawk defense all night rushing for 230 yards on 40 carries and three touchdowns. Bondurant closed out the scoring as Stafford connected on a 41 yard field goal in the final seconds of the half taking a 20-0 lead into the break.
Out of the locker room Mid-Prairie crossed into Blue Jay territory for the first time on the night with their first possession but a fumble turned into Bondurant points when Grant Petersen ran in from 25 yards out. In the 4th quarter Halder would score one more time and Mid-Prairie would find themselves in Blue Jay territory again late, only to throw an interception to end the game. Bondurant controlled things from the opening kick amassing 347 yards on the ground to the Golden Hawks 77, outgaining Mid-Prairie 435-145 in total yards and posting 22 first downs to the Golden Hawks five and hanging on to the ball for more than 31 minutes of the contest. Individually Mid-Prairie was led by Eesaa Baylor’s 10 carries and 57 yards, Reid Miller was 11 of 20 through the air for 68 yards. With the loss Mid-Prairie ends their season at 8-3 in the second round of the post season. #10 Bondurant advances to the state quarterfinals Friday night when they travel to #2 Mediapolis who was a 42-6 winner over West Liberty.
