IMS won their first round game of the tournament, eliminating Lone Tree.

IMS won 25-20, 25-20 and 25-14 to win the match 3-0.

Olivia Yutzy had 13 kills, while Laura Hochstetler had nine digs and Hannah Miller stepped into the setting spot and had 21 assists.

IMS head coach Cindy Miller said after the game that her team was nervous because they had to replace Casey Perez, but Hannah Miller stepped up.

“We were pretty nervous about this match because we knew that [Perez} had that injury to her knee, and she wasn’t going to play at all and so we had to figure out how we were going to build off that, and we tried a bunch of combinations,” Miller said. “We decided that the best alternative was to have Hannah Miller set tonight, and go all the way around, 5-1, and that girl has played every position on the floor.”

With the match Lone Tree is eliminated this season, co-head coach Kelsey Tuebel said after the match that her team did everything they needed to, but they just couldn’t get over the hump.

“[The team] was much more aggressive, and we kept working on so many things during the year, and they did everything we told them to do, and it felt like a personal victory to us, but IMS played well, and they just outplayed us at the end of the games,” Tuebel said.

IMS moves on in the tournament and will play Keota, who was a 3-0 winner over English Valleys, next Tuesday.
