Demons Have Huge First Half Against Panthers

The Washington Demons have been out score in the first quarter all year, they have struggled in the first half with not being able to score, and not being able to stop the opposing team from scoring. They offense had only 169 yards against Williamsburg, and scored once.

This week, they put all of that behind them, scoring four times in the first quarter, and eight times in the first half, and beat Mt. Pleasant 62-7.

The game started with the Demons receiving the ball, and Alan Sanchez slipped on the wet grass at the four yard line to give the Demons bad field position to start. Bad was in the eye of the beholder, as Daryn Sebelius ran a fake handoff to Alex Coker on the first play from scrimmage, and took it 96 yards down the field for the first touchdown of the game.

The Panthers got the ball and had one of their many three and outs that they would have for the remainder of the evening.

On Washington’s next drive, it took them seven plays to reach paydirt for the first of Coker’s touchdowns, and he went 36 yards to make the score 14-0.

The Demons were still not done in the first taking nine plays off of a Coker interception with 7:36 left to go in the first quarter and scoring off a five yard Coker touchdown run to make it 21-0, and scoring again after a blocked punt by Garret Covington gave the Demons great field position, and Coker rook it in from 13 yards out.

At this point in the game the Panthers had yet to have a first down, and when they came last night they were few and far between.

The Demons started out the second quarter they way they ended the first one with one yard Kyle Roder touchdown run, and scoring again later, after Mitchell Hora came from the blind side and sacked Panther quarterback Conner Shull and forced the fumble, Sebelius rolled out to his left and connected on a 16 yard touchdown pass to Sanchez.

The score is 42-0, and the Demons are not letting up, scoring again off a five yard run by Roder, and a a screen pass to Carl Sivels who was caught by his jersey and dead in the water gets away and scores from seven yards out, to end the half at 55-0.

The No. 1 offense came out for one more drive in the second half to score yet again, this one off from a 74 yard run by Coker to make it 62-0.

The Panthers scored once in the second half against the Demon second team defense, but the Demons got the win off the continuous clock.

Demon head coach Randy Shrader didn’t have much to say in the post game show other than that was a good football game.

“Headed into the locker room at half time, might have been the best half of football,” Shrader said. “The defense played lights out, we got some turnovers that we had to have, and the kids just really came to play.”
