Citizens of Washington Share First Thoughts on Major Road Changes
Posted: October 27, 2012 @ 6:25 am In Today's Local News
With the major changes in the rear view mirror on West Madison Street in Washington a resident living on the roadway and a City official discuss the initial reactions to the project and it’s potential success. Jim Cluney, who resides at 320 West Madison Street admits that he was skeptical of the plan to change West Madison from a four lane road to a three lane road including a middle turning lane. Cluney says his biggest worry was that the center turning lane would be abused by drivers.
Cluney says that over last few weeks he has enjoyed the resurfacing on the road but has noticed people speeding in the center lane and using it incorrectly as a regular traffic lane. He says that while he has seen it used incorrectly, it’s still too soon to pass judgment on the project.
Washington City Administrator Brett Hinson tells KCII news that the West Madison construction project was a DOT project and that it was the Washington City Council’s vote that made the roadway a three lane thoroughfare. While the project was the responsibility of the DOT, Hinson says his office has still received comments and mixed reactions.
