The Washington Planning and Zoning Commission approved the 2012 Comprehensive Plan last night and now the plan moves to the City Council for adoption.  Work on the Plan started in October and shows different ways of improving the city over the next 20 years.

The Council is set to hold a third reading of an ordinance designating an Urban Revitalization Plan tonight as well.  This plan that will last for ten years calls for tax abatements for the different classifications of property within the city limits.  It also provides a strong incentive to improve properties, build new and will help with housing strategies in the city.

The Washington City Council meeting begins at 6:00 tonight in the old public library.

Other readings happening as part of the meeting tonight:

Second reading of an ordinance change for a four-way stop at the intersection of South 12th Avenue and East Taylor Street.

Second reading of an ordinance change for a drop-off lane at the Junior High School and a no parking zone on the west side of 4th Avenue during school hours.

First readings of ordinance changes for a no parking zones for a parking space near North 2nd Avenue at East 3rd Street and for adding a no parking zone on the East side of North Avenue E from West Main Street to West 2nd Street.
