The City of Washington has started the second phase of their sewer cleaning project.  City Administrator Brent Hinson says Hydro Klean Sewer Cleaning Company of Des Moines is cleaning the sewers for maintenance and televising.  The televising is to perform the inflow and infiltration work.

Crews are currently working in the west central and southwest part of the city and should be completed in four weeks.  Hinson notes the cleaning might cause dry sewer traps or could cause sewer gas smells in homes and buildings.

The city maintenance department recommends placing water down the floor drains if any gas smells are detected.  Anyone with questions can contact the Maintenance and Construction office at 319-653-2947.
