Drivers need to use extra caution and should plan extra time to get to their destination this holiday weekend because of road construction in the area.  Tim Ehrich Iowa Department of Transportation Construction Supervisor says projects in southeast Iowa and throughout the state are causing detours, reduced speed limits and drivers should be prepared for delays.  He adds that traffic fines are doubled in work zones.  Besides work on the major highways in the state, there may be work on county roads as well.

A list of road projects in southeast Iowa are:

Elm Avenue will be closed to through traffic for almost five miles south of 250th Street.

Bridge deck overlay work on Iowa 92, just east of Delta in Keokuk County, will cause traffic to be detoured beginning Aug. 27. Motorists traveling westbound on Iowa 92 will be rerouted south and west on Iowa 149 and then north on Iowa 21.  Motorists traveling eastbound on Iowa 92 will be rerouted south on Iowa 21 and then east and north on Iowa 149.

Bridge repair on the Iowa River Bridge on Iowa 92 at Columbus Junction has traffic restricted to one lane. Traffic is being maintained with temporary traffic signals.

Placement of asphalt shoulders on U.S. 218/Iowa 27 in Henry County from Iowa 78 to Iowa Avenue has traffic restricted to one lane in each direction.

Pavement reconstruction on I-80 in Iowa City between mileposts 244 and 248 has traffic shifted onto the median and eastbound lanes to accommodate paving operations on the westbound lanes. Two 12-foot wide lanes are available in each direction with narrow shoulders and temporary barrier rail. Eastbound truck traffic is being directed to use the inside lane. All ramps remain open to traffic.

Bridge repairs on I-380 from the I-80 interchange north 1.5 miles are restricting lane widths in both directions. Traffic is being shifted to two 10-foot wide lanes in each direction.
