County Working on Last Steps toward New Federal Bandwidth Compliance

County compliance of a federal agency’s requirement of bandwidths to be changed is nearly complete.  Cara Sorrells from the Washington County Safety Center says this requirement from the Federal Communications Commission means the radio frequency licenses used are becoming smaller and they need to tighten their use of those radio frequencies by the first of the year. This plan was first discussed in 2007 to see what equipment needed to be upgraded.

Sorrells says everything has been changed and the last step is to upgrade the warning sirens in the individual communities.

She notes the public will not see any change in services provided.  Sorrells adds the total cost for this upgrade was three hundred eighty-two thousand dollars which was funded by the 911 surcharge on telephone bills.
