In a story previously reported on KCII, only 30% of students in Iowa have received a high enough ACT score to be considered ready for college-level classes. Tera Pickens, from Kirkwood Community College in Washington says that percentage does not really affect those who come to their campus. She says Kirkwood does not require the ACT be taken for acceptance however she says they will look at the scores to make sure students are put in the correct classes.
Pickens notes the scores could be reviewed depending on the four-year college a student might attend even though that institution will generally look at the GPA received after a student has completed 24-credit hours. She says students should still take the test since it’s a good experience and it gives the student an idea of how they score to compare them with other standards.
