Fourth of July fireworks are happening in many communities around the area tonight.  Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar wants everyone to stay safe while celebrating our nation’s independence, and reminds Washington County residents that using fireworks is illegal and dangerous.

Sheriff Dunbar says here in Washington County, one or two hand injuries are caused each year.  Use of illegal fireworks is a simple misdemeanor, but operating permits can be granted by the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
