Voter turnout in Washington County for Tuesday’s primary was low compared to the number of registered voters. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer says turnout was around 18 and a half percent of those registered. He says when compared to the June 2010 primary, turnout was similar, but slightly higher. The turnout was several percentage points higher than the state average.
Widmer notes that while comparing specific voting locations can’t be done because of the new districts, absentee voting shows a slight increase from two years ago as well. He says there were 405 people that voted absentee on Tuesday which is exactly 100 more than 2010.
Widmer says because of the new voting districts and convenience of it, absentee voting will increase in popularity. He adds the results from Tuesday’s primary will not be finalized until the canvassing board meets next week.
