Posted: May 28, 2012 @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News
An area veteran of World War II had the chance to go on the Honor Flight. The Honor Flight is a program that flies World War II Veterans to Washington D.C. for free. This year Keota resident Paul Weber had the chance to take part in the trip. According to Weber they saw a lot of monuments while they were out there, including the Iowa, Lincoln, and the WWII Monument.
The one day trip took off from the Eastern Iowa Airport at 7am and the veterans boarded a plane at 9pm. Weber admits that his favorite part of the trip is the reception he and the other veterans received upon arriving back at the airport in Cedar Rapids.
This was the first honor flight of the year offered by Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, the next takes off on Tuesday, June 5th. To date the non-profit organization has taken 541 Iowa WWII Veterans to Washington D.C.
