The Demon softball team took home a couple of wins last night off of Ft. Madison. Washington won game one 10-6 after the Bloodhounds attempted to come back. The second game was a different story.

After a 1-2-3 inning with a strike out by Ashley Rausch the Demons opened up the offense, scoring five runs off eight batters, while Grace Redlinger went long to center field for a two run RBI. The Demons didn’t stop there though, as another 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts by Rausch gave her the chance to step up in the second inning and put one over the center field wall for a three run shot.

The Demons were up 10-0 in the game, but some control issues by Ashley Rausch walked the bases full and then walked home the only run for Ft. Madison on four straight pitches before getting the final out. The Bloodhounds changed pitchers in the fourth putting down the Demons in four players, but it didn’t take Washington long to figure her out, as after three strikeouts by Rausch the Demons grabbed three more RBI’s and took home the win early 14-1.

Head coach Angie Shrader said she was excited by the offensive production, and that it really helped lift some girls who were focused on their own mistakes rather than the game.

The Demons had no errors on the evening and had eight stolen bases on the evening, Shrader said it is something they work on in practice, and that a smart base runner can make up for their speed.

The Demons are 4-0 on the season, 2-0 in conference play and play Fairfield next.
