The Iowa State University Extension is hosting a workshop this week to educate area farmers about farming methods that can help them throughout the year.  The Extension’s annual spring field day will present farmers with information about how to effectively use cover crops.  ISU Field Agronomist Jim Fawcett says cover crops are planted in the fall and spring to keep soil healthy and productive all year.

One popular cover crop is rye because it grows well in the fall and spring, and provides good root growth, which helps soil conservation.  The field day will be held at noon on Wednesday at the ISU Southeast Iowa Research farm near Crawfordsville.

Call the Washington County Extension to sign up.
