The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks girls’ soccer team had struggled in recent seasons against West Liberty, including a loss last year, but this is a new year, a new team, and for the first time in the 10 years of the program, Mid-Prairie opened the season with a shutout by knocking off the Comets 10-0.

The Iowa Mennonite girls track team competed in the A class of the Ruth Ahrens invitational in Marengo yesterday against some much bigger schools and although they finished seventh in the meet, IMS was still able to score some points and take away some positives from the events.

The Keota School Board will hold public hearings on both the budget for 2012-2013 and the calendar for that school year. The board will begin the meeting with presentations on short and long term planning involving a preview of an April 20th community meeting.

With high gas prices and nice weather outside, you may be looking for ways to save. Ron Schull with Ross Auto and Muffler gave us some tips to keep your gas costs down. He says there is no magical solution for getting better gas mileage, its all about routine maintenance.

The Columbus Junction City Council is holding a meeting tomorrow night. The council will begin the meeting by hearing citizens’ concerns and holding discussions of them. They will also be discussing street repairs and hearing a report from the Streets and Sidewalks Committee.
