The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard quarterly reports as part of their meeting yesterday.  Sue Rich from Washington County General Assistance shared that they spent a little over fifteen hundred dollars from January to March. She says thinks the lower amount of funds spent was because of the milder winter.  Rich also spoke about funding spent Washington County Veterans Affairs.  For the first three months of the year, over $1100 was spent on Veterans’ benefits.  The supervisors also approved a bid contract for a road construction project.  This is for grading and surfacing on 175th Street from Vine Avenue heading east almost three miles to the county line.  Cornerstone Excavating in Washington was awarded the bid for almost $493,000.  The cost estimate for this project was $504,000.  The Supervisors also approved a resolution for two grant applications to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation – for a paving project on 140th Street from Highway 1 west to Larch Avenue and the other for some work on the Kalona-Richmond Trail Project.
