String of Record High Temps Continue in Southeast Iowa
Posted: March 20, 2012 @ 6:20 am In Today's Local News
Washington set another high temperature yesterday, bring the total to seven days in a row where the record high has been either tied or broken. Dave Cousins, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities says setting this many records in a row is very unusual, but it has happened before.
Cousins says these records stem from the jet stream and a large ridge of high pressure remaining in place and that’s not normal for this time of year. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker agrees by saying usually these types of patters will happen in the summer months.
Both Cousins and Hillaker note that it’s too early to tell if the warmer temperatures this early in the spring will have in impact on the upcoming severe weather season.
